CCP Data used to fact-check Marco Rubio’s speech

After Marco Rubio claimed that the United States was the only country in the world with the right to bear arms, reporters wanted to check his facts. Story is here. Bottom line: Rubio was close, but not quite right: As we wrote in BloombergView last year, Mexico and Guatemala also have rights to guns, and Haiti is close (although we code it as “Other” because although citizens have the right to defend their home, they have “no right to bear arms without express well-founded authorization from the Chief of Police.” (Article 268.1).
