Côte d'Ivoire president announces plans for constitutional reform. On Monday, the president of Côte d'Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara, announced that if he wins a second term in this week's elections he will push to replace what he claims is an 'outdated' constitution. The current constitution, which was passed following the military coup of 1999, contains controversial nationality provisions including a requirement that presidential candidates prove that their parents are native Ivorians.
