SCOTUS rules religious institutions can receive some public funding. On Monday, the United States Supreme Court ruled that states cannot deny subsidies for playground safety to churches on the grounds that they are religious institutions. The court reached its decision with a 7-2 majority, but failed to reach a majority as to whether the decision extends to all government benefits, only child-welfare benefits, or just playground-safety subsidies.

Peru amends constitution to recognize right to water. Last week, Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski signed a constitutional amendment recognizing water as a constitutional right. Peru joins several other countries in recognizing a right to water, either in their constitutions or via national legislation.
