Thai military seeks controversial protections in new constitution. Thailand's military junta today asked the Constitution Drafting Committee to extend its power and immunity beyond the election of a new government, claiming that the arrangement is necessary to protect the country from another crisis. Critics fear the measures would pave the way for indefinite military rule.

Kenya's Jubilee Coalition seeks major constitutional changes. Claiming that 20 percent of Kenya's constitution is "unsuitable," Jubilee Coalition members of parliament plan to propose extensive amendments that would limit judicial tenure, remove electoral gender quotas, and consolidate counties and constituencies. The Jubilee Coalition wants to put all of the amendments before Kenyans in a single referendum question during the August 2017 elections.
